6. Description of content: The Australian Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is advising the release the Australian National Standard for Organic and Bio-Dynamic Produce Edition 3.8 to supersede the previous edition 3.7 dated September 2016.
Australia is allowing a sixty (60 days) comment period.
7. Objective and rationale, including the nature of urgent problems where applicable: The Australian National Standard for Organic and Bio-dynamic Produce (the standard) outlines the conditions needed to be met to export organic or bio-dynamic goods from Australia.
The update to this standard is to maintain a 'fit-for-purpose' status, in line with changes to consumer information, labelling, prevention of deceptive practices and consumer protection.
Edition 3.8 of the standard provides amendments to Section 1.15 Livestock breeds and breeding (use of Semen Sexing in livestock intended for milk production), amendments to Section 3.1 Cosmetics and Skin Care (the addition of sodium hydroxide) and introduces Section 3.2 on Wine Production. ; Reducing trade barriers and facilitating trade
